The nomination papers filed by Saritha S. Nair involved in the infamous solar scam for contesting in the Lok Sabha election from Ernakulam and Wayanad constituencies have been rejected.
According to the presiding officer, the rejection was on ground that the sentence awarded to her was yet to be cancelled. Saritha had been imprisoned for two years in connection with the solar scam. Her advocate, however, argued that she had filed an appeal against the verdict.
But she failed to produce sufficient documentary evidence within the specified time. This resulted in the presiding officer rejecting her nomination. Saritha had claimed that she was contesting the elections as an independent to prove that if accused persons with political clout could be in the fray, she too had the right to do so. She had said she would, without political support, fight such 'criminals’.
Already she has raised charges of sexual assault against several leaders, including Congress candidate in Ernakulam Hibi Eden against whom she intended to contest as an independent.
