Things took a turn for the worse for Congress leader and UDF candidate from Kozhikode MK Raghavan with DYFI leader Muhammad Riyas filing a complaint with the Election Commission over the sting operation video where Raghavan is seen to be allegedly demanding money for election campaign.
The complainant demanded disqualification of Raghavan on grounds of breach of model code of conduct(MCC) and a probe into the matter. In a report TV9 had a video showing Raghavan seeking Rs 5 crore from them as a bribe when they approached him posing as a private team planning to build a five-star hotel in Kozhikode.
Raghavan’s nomination was accepted after scrutiny on Friday. The complaint was filed after this. Riyas also demanded a probe into Raghavans financial dealings. In the wake of Congress alleging that CPM was behind the bribery video controversy, the move by Riyas is seen as an attempt to thwart it.
The District Collector had in his report suggested a probe into the issue and the Election Commission was looking into the matter.
