The seven-year-old boy from Thodupuzha, who was ghastly attacked by his mother's partner more than a week ago, died on Saturday. The child, declared brain-dead, was surviving on life support since last Saturday at a private hospital at Kolencherry in Ernakulam district

Police who had arrested Arun Anand (36) and charged him with attempt to murder would now charge him murder. He has also been booked under Posco for sexually assaulting the boy.It was on March 27 the the boy was brutally beaten up and taken to a hospital near the house and later shifted to Kolencherry hospital. He had a broken skull and damaged ribs.
He was kicked and flung onto a wall as his younger brother of four years wetted the bed. The skull had a 6-cm long fracture and blood circulation to the brain was blocked. There were injuries in the lungs and stomach, following broken ribs because of the kicks. The mother and her partner, an accused in several cases, including that for murder, had taken the child to a hospital nearby claiming it had fallen from the sofa.

Doctors informed the Child Welfare Committee as the child had several bruises. The revelations of his younger brother gave details of the brutality. Arun Anand had come to live with the child's mother after her husband died some seven months ago. He is also a distant relative of the deceased.
