Munnar, April 01: A wild fire broke out at Anamudi Shola National Park in Idukki district near Munnar three days ago and efforts were on to put off the flames. It is estimated that over 50 hectares of land was destroyed, damaging the biodiversity.
Due to high velocity wind and dry grass in the area, the wildfire is spreading near to Mannavan Chola area which is near by the National Park. More than 50 forest and fire force department staff were involved in the fire fighting operation. The park is situated 45 km away from Munnar.
The National Park is managed by Kerala Wildlife and Forest department and Munnar Wildlife Division. The park has been nominated recently for World Heritage site status under UNESCO's World heritage programme.
