It is a rejuvenated Congress across Kerala with the announcement of party president Rahul Gandhi’s candidature from Kerala.
It was celebration time for Congress workers, bursting crackers and distributing sweets. This is the first time that a leader in the race for prime ministership was contesting from Kerala.
Seen as a 'surgical strike’ against the LDF and the BJP, Congress expects the ripples to spread to other constituencies not just in Kerala but neighbouring Karnataka and Tamil Nadu too. Congress targets at least 120 seats from the three Southern States.
KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said the news of Rahul’s candidature in Wayanad was a ‘proud moment’ for Keralites.
“I join the happiness of the democratic and secular powers in Kerala… Rahul will win the polls with record majority and it is the most delightful moment for a democratic secular force,” he added.
It would be a flow of national leaders to Wayanad and they would also campaign in other constituencies in the State whose effect would be seen when results would be out, Congress leaders said. It would also boost UDF campaign, they added.
