The CPM has lashed out at the decision of the Congress to field Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that Rahul’s candidature should be seen as a contest against the Left when the fight of both had to be against BJP. The Left Democratic Front was strong enough to take on Rahul in Wayanad and there was little cause for anxiety.
Party state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan went a step ahead to say that Rahul opted for Wayanad because he feared defeat in Amethi. This has made Congress and certain Left supporters that the CPM was voicing the views similar to that of BJP.
Kodiyeri claimed that LDF’s chance of victory had gone up with Rahuls candidature and it would bag all the 20 seats in the State.
Kodiyeri wanted to know how Rahul, who is not confident in his own constituency Amethi, could lead a front against BJP.
He added that the Congress through the Wayanad move would realise the CPM strength and Congress would not win even a single seat in North India.
