Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 23: BJP Kerala Unit General Secretary K Surendran will contest from Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat where a series of agitations was witnessed in connection with the Sabarimala issue.
The name of K Surendran who was jailed for more than three weeks in connection with the Sabarimala agitation has been announced by Party's Central leadership on Saturday, party sources said.The district witnessed intense agitations following the SC verdict allowing the entry of women of all ages into Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.
Though the party, which had decided to contest in 14 seats, has announced a list of 13 candidates earlier and kept suspense on Pathanamthitta seat following media reports that party President PS Sreedharan Pillai was also eyeing for the seat. Meanwhile, Mr Pillai said the name of Mr Surendran was suggested by him and he was not interested to be in the fray.
Claiming that Mr Surendran will create a history by winning the seat, he said the party will win in other Lok Sabha seats which the party is contesting. BDJS, the second largest ally in the BJP, will contest in five seats and PC Thomas of Kerala Congress in Kottayam seat. UNI
