After getting a jibe from Agriculture Minister VS Sunilkumar, the Cabinet also strongly slammed Chief Secretary Tom Jose for not issuing an order on moratorium for all farm loans till December 31.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed displeasure over Tom Jose’s failure to issue the order on time, despite Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan giving the nod for the moratorium before the election code of conduct came into effect. Though Tom Jose gave an explanation, the Cabinet rejected it outright and instructed him to take immediate action to execute the farm package, including moratorium.
After a Malayalam news daily had reported the issue, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunilkumar came out publicly against the Chief Secretary. During the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Secretary explained that the moratorium on farm loans was applicable till October. But Pinarayi rejected his explanation saying it was difficult for farmers to understand this and there was need for a government notification.
