Palakkad, March 19: Following labour unrest, Pepsico has temporarily stopped all its operations at the Kanjikode factory in Palakkad.
Recently, PepsiCo decided to franchise all works at the plant to Varun Beverages Limited (VBL). Though the company started discussions on this, workers went for a strike and threatened other company employees.
PepsiCo in a statement said it considered the safety of its employees with utmost priority and therefore, to ensure their safety and protect the plant and machinery, the company suspended production at its beverage plant located at Palakkad, Kerala.
SB Raju, leader of CITU, one of the major trade union organisations, said workers had been striking inside the plant for the last two days demanding protection of the interests of the workers, including their service benefits.
