Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 26 : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the concluding session of 'Students Parliament' held as part of Festival on Democracy, at the Kerala Legislative Assembly complex.
Speaking on the occasion on Monday, the Chief Minister urged students community to come forward to ensure a better democratic process in the country.
He said students must be educated on fundamental rights, privilege of a free press, freedom to speak, criticise the Government if they go wrong.
Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan, CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechurry and several other dignataries also attended the event in which more than 2000 students participated in the three-day event organised as part of the diamond Jubilee celebrations of the State Assembly.
Speaking on the occasion, Yechurry said the students community should act as a correction force in a democratic system. Speaker Sreeramakrishnan said technology is also playing a role in democracy.
There are many who criticise politics and political activity but one must correct the system and not move away from it, he added. (UNI)
