The CPM was put on the defensive when its local leader A Peethambaran was arrested in connection with the killing of two Youth Congress activists in Kasaragod district two days ago.
His statement to the police said personal revenge made him plot the murder. The CPM, which initially claimed it was in no way connected with the murder, has now dismissed him from the party.
Six others are in custody with the killing of Kripesh (24) and Sarath Lal (21) on Sunday night. They along with Peethambaran will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
Kripesh and Sarath Lal were waylaid and attacked with a machete and iron rods while returning home after attending a function at Periya in Kasaragod district.
Peethambaran statement was that he attacked Kripesh on his head and, according to police, there was a serious injury in his brain.
Peethambaran said he decided to kill the two as the party did not intervene in the case related to assassination attempt plotted against him by Kripesh and Sarath. He felt disappointed and this “provoked” him to hit back.
