Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 5 : Devaswom Commissioner and Chief Executive officer of Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) N Vasu on Tuesday said the Board will consider the explanation submitted by Sabarimala Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru on conducting 'purification' rituals in Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala on January 2.
Earlier, the TDB asked an explanation from Tantri for closing the Ayyappa temple to perform purification rituals after the entry of two women between 10 and 50 years of age.
It may be noted that the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front criticised the purification ceremony held by Tantri following the entry of women, terming it as anti-women and violation of Supreme Court verdict.
In its September 28 verdict, the SC allowed women of menstruating age to enter the temple.
Meanwhile, Tantri told UNI that he had submitted his explanation and was duty-bound to perform the purification rituals as per the customs of Lord Ayyappa temple and Tantric text. (UNI)
