Putting to rest all speculation about being the BJP's Lok Sabha candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, superstar Mohanlal has said he was not taking an electoral plunge.
“Politics is not my cup of tea. As an artist, my field is film. So, I dedicate 99 per cent of my time for this. I have got a lot of projects to complete. So I have no plans to skip films and join politics," the actor told a regional newspaper, Mathrubhumi Daily.
He said there were rumours that he would be contesting in the coming elections. He added that he was not interested in being a candidate. His hands were full and so could not afford to stay away from that.
Given Mohanlal's popularity and stature to take on Congress leader Sashi Tharoor, who is trying for a hat-trick from Thiruvananthapuram, the BJP had said it was considering fielding him. The recent conferring of Padmabhushan on the superstar fuelled the speculation and social media was abuzz with comments in this regard. His fans had voiced their protest and said he was a 'national asset’ and could not be confined to any political party.
