In a first-ever move to cleanse the police force, the Kerala Government today reshuffled the force and demoted 11 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) to the rank of circle inspectors.
Alongside, several transfers were made prior to the implementation of the code of conduct before the Lok Sabha elections are announced.
The disciplinary action against the DySPs is making them consider moving the High Court. It is reported that these officers were promoted temporarily. Demoted officers were those who were temporarily promoted as DySPs.
According to rules, those police officers facing punishment like suspension, are not eligible for promotion. The Government also promoted 26 Circle Inspectors to the rank of DySP on the basis of their performance.
As part of the exercise to restructure the force, the government transferred 53 DySPs and 11 ASPs.
The Election Commission had issued orders to transfer those police officers directly connected with the elections.
