Embarrassed by the 51 young women list that included men and those above 50 who worshipped at Sabarimala, the Kerala police has pared it to 17.
The new list, prepared on the recommendations of a top-level committee, has been submitted to the Supreme Court.
The committee, headed by Chief Secretary Tom Jose, wanted police to rework the list and ensure that it was true and proper. It was found that the list had four men and 30 women above the age of 50.
The submission of the list was in the wake of the September 28 verdict of the Supreme Court allowing women in the menstural age to worship at Sabarimala. The State Government's enthusiasm to implement the verdict saw stiff opposition from the BJP-RSS combine and the Congress, though they they had initially welcomed the verdict and termed it as historic.
