Allegations in the backdrop of nepotism against Minister KT Jaleel took a new twist with charges of bid to blackmail CPIM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

Muslim Youth League state general secretary PK Firoz said on Thursday that Jaleel had blackmailed Kodiyeri over the appointment of DS Neelakandan as deputy director (technical) of Information Kerala Mission (IKM).

Firoz said Neelakandan was the son of CPIM leader Koliyakode Krishnan Nair’s brother Damodharan Nair and was appointed without the the intervention of Kodiyeri when he was Home Minister.

Firoz told mediapersons that Jaleel blackmailed Kodiyeri when nepotism charges were levelled against him over appointment of his cousin in the Kerala State Minorities Development Finance Corporation as general manager on deputation from a private bank.

He said there were similarities in the case as this was on a contract basis, initially for a year, but extended for five years. An interview held earlier was cancelled as the 'wanted' candidate did not attend it. Also prior permission was not sought from the finance department.
