Four CPI-M workers, 3 BJP activists injured in different bomb attacks

Kannur, Jan 23 : Four CPI(M) workers and three BJP activists were injured in separate bomb attacks at Pottan Para Alikandy bazar near Pinarayi in the wee hours on Wednesday.

Tense situation prevailed at Pinarayi and nearby Thalassery following the attack.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been camping in his own village at Pinarayi to attend a family meet organized by CPI(M) for the last two days.

According to Pinarayi Police, CPI(M) worker Sayanth (20) suffered injuries in an alleged attack by a gang of BJP who assulated him with iron rods when he was returning to his house after attending the Koyalankunnu temple festival around 0100 hrs.

Following the screams of Sayanth, two CPI(M) workers Raghesh (26), Karthik (28) and his sister Arya (17) a school student rushed to the spot. They also suffered minor injuries when they tried to prevent the attack on Sayanth. All the four injured CPI(M) workers have been admitted in Thalassery Cooperative hospital.

Later, BJP activists Party Pinarayi Panchayat Secretary C Rajesh (34) C Sanoj (38), and RSS Mukya Sikshak Abhijith (24) sustained serious injuries in a bomb attack, allegedly by CPI(M) workers as part of retaliation over the attack against Sayanth.

The seriously injured Sanoj and Rajesh have been admitted at Malabar Medical College at Ulliyeri in Kozhikode district, while Abhijith was admitted at Thalassery Indhira Gandhi Cooperative hospital.

A Large number of police personnel led by Thalassery ASP Aravind Sukumar were camping and the situation is under control, police said.

Police have registered two cases and arrested three CPI(M) workers in this connection. CPI(M) workers alleged that BJP workers hurled bomb against them when they tried to prevent the attacks against Sayanth. (UNI)
