KSRTC buses will be off roads from midnight as staff will be on an indefinite strike. The decision to go ahead with the strike comes despite Kerala High Court restraining workers from the agitation.
The court on Wednesday asked the unions not to go on strike and be part of the conciliation talks to be held tomorrow.
However, union leaders took the stand that it was not for the court to decide whether workers should go on strike or not. They said the strike was against moves ‘detrimental’ to the corporation and its staff.
Leaders said the staff had not been paid their dearness allowance arrears December. Corporation managing director Tomin Thachankeri was accused of hiding the duty revision report. Several steps were being taken under the garb of modernisation which would 'kill' the corporation, they alleged.
The court had directed unions to take part in the conciliation talks to be convened on Thursday and then decide the future course of action. The court was also critical of Thachankeri for delaying the discussions even after unions had given the strike notice much in advance.
