Kerala High Court has sent a notice to the state government and IRE in connection with the Alappad mineral sand mining.
The court's action was based on a plea filed by an Alappad native seeking a ban on sand mining in the panchayat as it was illegal.
The court will consider the case after a week. The plea has also requested the Central Environment MInistry and Remote Sensing Agency to conduct a study on the issue and submit a report.
Despite Industries Minister EP Jayarajan blasting the 77-day-long agitation, Chief Minister has convened a meeting of the agitators, PSUs and officials on Thursday.
An Assembly committee chaired by Mullakkara Ratnakaran had suggested stopping of mining activities as it is being carried out by ignoring the recommendations suggested by a government panel.
