Agency News

The nation-wide 48-hour-long trade union strike which began this morning was total in Kerala with picketing of trains marring day. Buses were off the roads and a few auto rickshaws were even operating in several parts of the State. Shops across the State also remained open, contrary to what it has been in earlier situations.

Protesters blocked trains immediately after the start of the strike. There was picketing at several railway stations.

Trains departing from Thiruvananthapuram were running late. Venad Express, Parasuram Express, Rapthi Sagar Express and Jan Shatabdi Express were blocked at Thiruvananthapuram station.

At Tripunithura, the Thiruvananthapuram Chennai Mail was blocked. Trains are expected to run very late as picketing would happen at many stations.

Central and State Government offices, banks, insurance firms and the transport sectors have been affected as employees went on a two-day strike on Tuesday.

Workers in the unorganised sector too have joined the nationwide strike.
