Thanka Anki procession begins

Pennews

The procession carrying the Thanka Anki for the Mandalapuja at Sabarimala set off from Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy Temple on Sunday morning.

A large number of protesters attached to the Sabarimala Karma Samiti protested against TDB president A. Padmakumar, who reached there to attend the ceremonial start of the procession.

Protesters had been staging 'Namajapa' protest at Aranmula from early morning, spurred by reports of Maniti activists’ intention to undertake Sabarimala pilgrimage under police protection.

Padmakumar told media that no violation of ritualistic practices had taken place at Sabarimala so far. ''The woman activists are at Pampa only,'' he said.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the Pandalam Palace representatives asked tantri Kandararu Rajeevararu to close the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and perform purification rites in the event of any violation of ritualistic practice at Sabarimala.
