Assembly adjourned for day on MLAs indefinite dharna

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 7: Kerala Assembly was adjourned for the day on Friday as Congress-led UDF members disrupted the proceedings demanding the Speaker's intervention to end the indefinite dharna being staged by three legislators in front of the house.

When the house assembled this morning, the Opposition members were on their feet and disrupted the Question Hour, shouted slogans besides displaying placards and banners.

Demanding the withdrawal of prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPc in Sabarimala and police restrictions, the three MLAs began the dharna in front of the house on December three.

Demanding discussion at the Speaker's chamber to end the dharna by the three MLAs---VS Sivakumar of Congress, N Jayaraj of Kerala Congress and Parakkal Abdullah of IUML, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said devotees are not being provided proper facilities at Sabarimala.

The house witnessed noisy scenes within minutes after it had assembled as the Opposition members went to the podium forcing Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan to wrap up the business listed for the day.

Later, the Speaker suspended Question Hour, Calling Attention, Submissions and adjourned the house for the day.
