Police have sounded an alert after intelligence reports that a Tamil Nadu-based Hindu outfit plans to send a team of 40 young women to Sabarimala.
South Zone ADGP Anil Kant has, based on the intelligence report, asked all officers at Pampa and Sannidhanam, besides Pathanamthitta and Kottayam to maintain strict vigil.
The outfit, Hindu Makkal Katchi plan, as per the report, is to take the women enter the Vavaru mosque at Erumeli. From there, they would be later make it to Sabarimala. While the names of the leaders of the outfit have been got, which includes state president Arjun Sambath and Thiruvallur district president Somu Rajasekharan, details of when they propose to reach Erumely has not been disclosed.
Twice when the shrine opened after the September 28 Supreme Court verdict allowing young women to worship at Sabarimala, there were protests after attempts were made by young women to make it to the shrine. But during the season that started in mid-November, there have been no such instances.
In the wake of the present secret report, police have upped vigil.
