Kannur minor girl gang rape: 5 more booked, DYFI leader among 13 held

Five more persons were arrested taking the number of those booked in the gang rape of a minor girl in Kannur to 13.

Those arrested included a local DYFI leader, who was, surprisingly, in the forefront of the protest outside the lodge where the crime was said to have been committed. According to the statement made to the police, the 16-year-old Class X student was gang-raped, filmed and threatened by about 20 men, including one of her relatives. This had been happening for quite some time.

She was first raped by four persons at a lodge at Parassinikadavu in Kannur.

It is said she befriended a woman on Facebook who invited her to meet her brother. When she went on instructions from the friend, she was taken to a lodge by some men and raped. The lodge manager too was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act. They also filmed it and then began blackmailing and abusing her. This continued for some time and the last time she was raped was in mid-November. The gang then called her brother and showed the video and is said to have demanded money

Her brother took her along with their mother to the women police cell in Kannur. According to police which has launched an investigation, the fake id was created from the phone of one of the accused.
