A woman from Kasargod, who had gone to Yemen, allegedly to join Islamic State (IS) in Syria, has returned to Kerala. On reaching Kasargod, she approached the police two weeks ago complaining that her husband, who was in Yemen, refused to allow her to take her two children when she decided to return.
Kasargod district police chief in-charge KM Tomy confirmed about the complaint from the woman seeking support to get her two children from her husband’s custody. Considering the seriousness of the issue, police have decided to discuss the issue with higher officials.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently reported that there was a steady increase in the return of women who had been part of the terrorist groups camping in different regions of Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria back to Kerala after the fall of IS in its strongholds. As the US and the UK have intensified their attack, many women members of the IS groups in Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria are coming back to India. Though women are leaving, men continued to stay with the group and engaged in their war.
