He turned into a hero when he fearlessly dealt with Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan. When the Minister wanted Yatheesh Chandra to let his vehicles all the way to Pamba, the cool officer replied that he could lift the ban if the Minister took responsibility.

He had earned the name as an impartial officer. He had lathicharged LDF agitators in Kochi sometime ago, leaving many CPM leaders in hospital.

Veteran VS Achuthanandan and Pinarayi Vijayan had criticised Yatheesh, though BJP backed him.. But in Sabarimala, Yatheesh maintained law and order with a strong hand.
