Thiruvananthapuram: The Pinaray Government threw a spanner in former DGP Senkumar's prospects of a posting in the Kerala Administrative Tribunal by presenting a blame-worthy affidavit in the ISRO espionage case against him.
The affidavit, submitted by government counsel in Kerala High Court, alleged that Senkumar was among the team of police officers who harassed scientist Nambi Narayanan related to the ISRO espionage case. The government has submitted the affidavit in reply to a petition filed by Senkumar stating that the government was deliberately delaying his appointment to the administrative tribunal.
Political analysts say the affidavit against Senkumar is part of a plan to spoil his reputation. Senkumar is rumoured as among those shortlisted by BJP to be Kerala Governor. The government does not want to see Senkumar, a known bête-noire of the government, as Kerala governor.
Earlier, there had been a legal battle between Senkumar and the Government. As his appointment to the post of DGP was getting delayed, Senkumar had moved the High Court stating the government was deliberately delaying his appointment. The government, in turn, replied that he was unfit for the post.
Senkumar was deputed earlier to reinvestigate the espionage case against Nambi Narayanan during the late EK Nayanar’s regime.
The investigation was stalled after the intervention of the Supreme Court. The government has now raised the argument that it was Senkumar who misled the court and got permission for further investigation against Nambi Narayanan.
Senkumar said he reinvestigated the case which was probed by the CBI based on the Nayanar Government’s order. “As a police officer, I accepted the government order. I will face this fake case implicated by the present government like I did earlier. “ he said.
