Plastics factory fire: Two arrested admit to crime, says police

Two workers were held in connection with the recent massive fire at the plastics factory at Manvila in Thiruvanthapuram. The duo admitted that they purposely set fire to the factory as protest against a salary cut.

Bimal of Chirayinkeezhu and Binu of Kazhakoottam told police who arrested them that they were sore at their salary being cut and decided to take revenge. According to police, the duo admitted committing the crime. Plastic material stored in the godown was set ablaze with a lighter by Bimal, who bought it from a shop nearby, and was supported by Binu. The two were arrested on Saturday.

The fire, which was extinguished after nearly eight hours of operation, is said to have caused a loss of more than Rs 500 crore at the Family Plastics firm.

Police said the duo committed the crime after their shift at 7 pm and were identified on the basis of CCTV visuals.
