The Sabarimala shrine opens at 5 pm on Monday for the 'Chithira Atta Vishesham’. Things have been going smooth.

There was an unprecedented rush even in the midst of threats of protest in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict allowing women of all age groups to worship at the shrine.

It is a 5,000-strong police contingent right from the base camp of Nilackal to the shrine at Sannidhanam in the wake of intelligence reports of the BJP-RSS set for a crackdown. As a precaution, prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC were clamped on Pamba, Nilakkal, Elavunkal and Sannidhanam from Saturday midnight up to November 6 midnight.

It is the second time that the temple has opened after the Supreme Court vedict allowed women of all ages to enter the shrine. The shrine will close at 10 pm on Tuesday after the rituals.

RSS leaders have warned of serious repercussions if women in the 10-50 age group come to worship. UNI
