The north east monsoon has arrived, though a fortnight late, lashing out across Thiruvanthapuram district from Friday night. The heavy downpour resulted four shutters of Neyyar dam being raised. The Peppara dam was also set to be opened.
The meteorological department has forecast heavy rains in Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts and said the situation would continue for a day more.
Catchment areas of the Neyyar and Peppara dams witnesses heavy rain. Authorities issued warning to people residing on the banks of Neyyar and Karamana rivers in Thiruvanthapuram.
