The Travancore Devaswom Board’s bid to resolve the Sabarimala issue through talks with the Pandalam royal family, tantris and Ayyappa devotee organisations on Tuesday failed.Pandalam royal family member Sasikumara Varma said they had to come out of the meeting halfway dissatisfied as TDB refused to concede their immediate demands, including a review petition, putting off implementation of the SC verdict to allow women of all ages to worship at the shrine.
However, TDB president A Padmakumar attributed the failure to the ‘stubborn’ stand of the royal family demanding filing of the review petition today itself.
Varma earlier said that future course of action would be taken after discussions with other organisations. “We requested TDB to file a review petition. Devaswom officials said it could be decided only after a meeting proposed on October 19. We did agree to this and hence walked out of the meeting midway," he said.
Others at the meeting also wanted immediate filing of the review petition. There was also no agreement on continuing the existing customs till the verdict on a host of review petitions filed.
