MeToo in Mollywood: Divya Gopinath accuses actor Alencier

Upcoming actress Divya Gopinath on Tuesday accused actor Alaencier, who won the State best character actor award, of harassing her.

Divya, heroine of the recently released movie ‘Aabhaasam’, revealed her story through Facebook video on Tuesday. A few weeks back, she had tried to come out with her story through an anonymous account on Twitter. As it was not received well, she had decided to come out with a video on her Facebook account.

Her video criticised the cool demeanour of actor Alancier in spite of harassing her. When she blamed him, Alancier told her that everything happened due to some kind of mental trauma.

She also said the actor, despite having committed the crime, was raving about his deed in public. She said she was traumatised when she heard about it.

She also said that when she complained about it to the Women in Cinema Collective, its members told her to meet them in person. She later came to know that Alancier had done the same to many women in the industry.

Alancier, who began his career in the theatre, later turned into a highly successful actor in mainstream films. Lopez made his debut in the 1998 film ‘Daya’. He won recognition through films such as ‘Annayum Rasoolum’, ‘Njan Steve Lopez’ and ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’. He won the Best Character Actor in the latest State film for his performance in ‘Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum’. Alancier has not responded to the allegation yet.
