M.T.Vasudevan Nair set to withdraw from ‘Mahabharata’


A few years ago there was much excitement in the Malayalam film industry when news came out that M.T.Vasudevan Nair’s famous novel ‘Randamoozham’ was to be filmed with Mohanlal in the lead. The film was to be done on a grand scale and was said to be the costliest Indian film ever at a cost of Rs 1000 Cr. The film was to have been directed by VA Sri Kumar Menon. However, MT Vasudevan Nair who had written the screenplay for the film has announced that he is backing off. The reason given for his withdrawal from the project is that the contract of three years is long over and shooting for the film had not even begun. He has also demanded that the screen play be returned to him.

It has been reported that MT Vasudevan Nair will be moving court to demand the screenplay back from the producer. Nair added that he was willing to return the advance paid to him.

‘Randamoozham is a novel written by Vasudevan Nair based on the epic ‘Mahabharata’. It is told from Bheema’s viewpoint and had won wide appreciation. Actor Mohanlal was all set to don the role of the protagonist in the film and Mammooty was cast as Karnan. With music by AR Rahman the film had evinced much interest.
