Red alert in Idukki, Malappuram goes; Idukki dam shutters opened

The red alert issued in idukki and Malappuram districts has been lowered to orange in view of the low pressure formed in the Arabian Sea moving further to the Oman coast.

However, with the prospects of the cyclonic storm, the Met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain till Tuesday.

Pathanamthitta and Wayanad have orange alert till Sunday and Palakkad till Monday.

One shutter of Cheruthoni dam was opened on Saturday morning, releasing 5 lakh cubic metres of water. The KSEB decided to open one shutter in view of the rain in the catchment areas.

The Neyyar, Aruvikkara, Peppara, Mattupetti, Malankara, Ponmudi, Banasura, Cheemeni, Peringalkuthu, Peechi, Sholayar, Malampuzha, Pothundi and Mangalam dams have remained open since yesterday.

In Kuttanad, 32 shutters of the Thottappally spillway were opened late on Friday.
