The Kerala police on Friday captured Denis (30), a wanted Maoist in a joint combing operation with the Tamil Nadu police on the Attapadai-Pudhur forests in the Western Ghats.
The search was undertaken by the “Thunderbolt” special operation team from Kerala, Tamil Nadu’s Q branch police and the forest department following a tipoff by local tribals, local reports said. Dennis, a suspected Maoist from Puliyankulam area in Coimbatore emerged as a leader after the arrest of Maoist leader Kalidas in September 2017.
He was arrested by Sujith Das, inspector from the Aghali police station in Kerala close to Tamil Nadu border.He was taken to Palakkad under tight security and was being interrogated, Tamil Nadu police said.
The crackdown on Maoists by the Tami Nadu and Kerala police followed the recovery of explosives on the backyard of Wayanad Veterinary Hospital premises along with a letter that said the Maoists planned to launch guerilla attacks on the Western Ghats. A four-page letter in Tamil on similar lines was sent to local media in Tamil Nadu also.
