The Excise Enforcement and Anti-Narcotic Special Squad on Saturday seized Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) worth about Rs 200 crore from a courier parcel at a private courier service firm at MG Road in Kochi.
The sleuths conducted a raid at a private courier service firm operating near the Shenoys Junction on the MG Road based on a tip-off received by Ernakulam Deputy Excise Commissioner A S Ranjith. Cops seized 30 kilograms of the contraband. The contraband kept in 64 packets which were concealed with carbon papers to evade detection by the scanners at the airport. Preliminary enquiry revealed that the parcel, bound for Malaysia, was despatched by an international smuggling racket.
In the local market, MDMA costs Rs 15,000 per one gram. But in international maket, it sells for double of its price. Earlier in March, two youngsters were arrested by the Excise sleuths while trying to smuggle MDMA worth Rs. 30 crore via Nedumbassery Airport. (PenNews with UNI input)
