The hartal proposed by Shiv Sena on Monday in Kerala in protest against the Supreme Court ruling allowing women entry to the hill shrine of Sabarimala has been called off
Instead there would be protest meetings across the State, according to Shiv Sena state chief MS Bhuvanachandran. He said the hartal decision was withdrawn as flood relief operations were on in the State.
He had told mediapersons earlier in the day that the party would file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the verdict. It would get in touch with other religious organisations for this.
He said customs and rituals at the shrine were in existence much before the Constitution was framed.
It was for the priests to decide the rituals of places of worship and not the court of law. Also, Sabarimala pilgrims included those from other religions. He had a dig at the RSS saying it's welcoming the verdict was part of a 'different agenda’.
