The Supreme Court verdict of Rs 50 lakh compensation to ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan has come after a long struggle that is short of a silver jubilee by hardly a year.
Narayanan has welcomed the verdict only partially. In his reaction to the media at Thiruvananthapuram he said his main contention was not compensation, but action against the erring police officials who included Kerala’s former DGP Siby Mathews and senior officers KK Joshua and S Vijayan.
Things took such a turn because of Siby who was leading the probe. The police felt that they could get away with anything. The probe ordered by the Supreme Court commission on whether action should be taken against the police officials should help bring out the truth.
Only then would he say he has succeeded. The final verdict was what he would be waiting for, he said. While Siby has refused to comment on the verdict and the probe commission, Joshua expressed his unhappiness.
