Nun’s body found in convent well at Pathanapuram

The body of a nun was found in the well of a convent at Pathanapuram in Kollam this morning.

According to police the body of Susan (55), a teacher at St Stephens School, Pathanapuram, was found from the well of the Mount Tabor Dayara Convent. When workers at the convent noticed blood stains near the well this morning when they came for work, they grew suspicious and went to the well where they found the body of the nun.

The convent authorities informed the police who with the help of the fire force fished out the body. Police said the matter was being probed and the reason for death was not known. Sources said the nun had not been keeping well for quite some time.

The school where Susan had been teaching for more than 12 years and the convent are run by the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. With this, the Malankara Orthodox church, which was already rocked by the recent sex scandals, will have to face another challenge in Kerala.

It was way back in 1992 that the body of the nun Sister Abhaya was found in the well of Pius Tenth Convent in Kottayam. While local police initially dismissed it as a case of suicide, the CBI stepped in Abhaya case investigation and found it to be a case of murder. It is perhaps the longest-running murder case.
