Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 3: Rajya Sabha member and former Kerala BJP president V Muralidharan on Monday demanded a comprehensive study into various facts that caused incessant rains and circumstances that led to the opening of all dams resulting into severe flood situations in the state.
Addressing a meet the press organised by the press club here, V Muralidharan said the Government should appoint a panel of experts to study various scientific facts for heavy rains and floods.
Pointing out that there are allegations from various corners on the failure in proper dam management and illegal construction in ecologically sensitive places, including in Alappuzha, Wayanad, Malappuram and Idukki districts, he said political parties are supporting encroachers as part of their vote bank politics.
Stressing the need of a consensus between political parties on development projects to be implemented without affecting the environment, he said the government should reconsider its previous stand in implementing the Kasturirangan Committee report, considering the latest Green Tribunal verdict against the stand of Kerala.
To a question on the Government's plan to send Ministers abroad to mobilise funds for reconstruction of the state after the floods, he said non resident Indians are voluntarily coming forward to donate funds to Kerala, hence the ministers' visit could be an additional burden on state's exchequer.
