Kerala police appears all set to question rape accused Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal on Friday.
The probe team, already in Delhi, is said to have readied a set of 50 questions for quizzing the bishop, accused of raping a nun.
It will collect evidence from a number of priests and nuns who left the Church in this connection. The nun's charge was that she was raped 13 times by the bishop. The team met Ujjain Diocese Bishop Sebastian Vadakkel who claimed he had not received any complaint from the nun about the sexual abuse. The nun had told him only about some problems she was facing in Jalandhar, forcing her to leave the place, he told the team.
However, the bishop has landed in a fix after the letter she had sent to him has come out. The nun had also said she had met him and raised the matter.
In a similar situation earlier, Syro Malabar Church head cardinal George Alencherry had also claimed that the nun had not given him any written complaint about the alleged sexual abuse. But a telephone conversation that came out recently had bared the lie with the cardinal telling her that her letter was with him and she should make no mention of it.
To make matters worse for the Jalandhar bishop in this case, the nun’s brother recently revealed that he was offered Rs 5 crore to withdraw the complaint.
A similar request came from a priest who rang up a friend of the nun and offered a new convent to the victim nun to be set up on 10 acres. Police booked the priest after the audio recording became public.
