The Supreme Court today rejected the anticipatory bail petitions of two priests charged with sexually abusing a housewife using her confession earlier to seek sexual favours.
The bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan said the priests of the Malankara Orthodox Church could surrender after which they could seek regular bail.
Four priests face charges of blackmailing the housewife using her confession of having intimate relationship with a priest when she was a minor.
While the second and third accused surrendered and later secured bail, first accused Fr Abraham Varghese and fourth accused Jaice George had been absconding moved the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail.
They were asked to surrender by August 13 and then could seek regular bail.
Counsel for the victim,who impleaded in the case, said some videos were uploaded by the accused on the Internet used against her. She pleaded that the priests should not be granted bail.
Counsel for State Government also argued against bail and said police were seeking their custody for questioning and collecting further evidence.
