Khadi board slaps notice against Mohanlal’s charka-spinning ad

The advertisement of super hero Mohanlal spinning a charka for a textile firm has earned the wrath of the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board.

A legal notice has been slapped on the actor, board vice-chairman Shobhana George has said.

Shobhana said that besides Mohanlal, the textile firm's managing director was also served a notice seeking withdrawal of the misleading advertisement that had nothing to do with the charka, a khadi symbol.

The charka was a national symbol and only khadi clothes are woven using thread spun on it, according to her.

The advertisement was misleading as the textile Mohanlal was sponsoring had nothing to do with khadi, she said.

Already, the industry was facing an onslaught with fake materials going under khadi label.

As part of the Onam and Bakrid festivals, the board was on a marketing campaign and hoped to promote the traditional industry, she said.

Shobhana, a former Congress legislator who backed the ruling Left Democratic Front during the recent Chengannur byelection, was reciprocated with the Khadi Board post.
