Mangaluru, May 24 : Ramzan, holy month which marks culmination of month long day fast by Muslim community, was celebrated on Sunday in three coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and also in Kodagu District. The Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in other parts of Karnataka on May 25 (Monday) at the sight of the crescent moon, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month.

Qazis in Coastal Karnataka had on Saturday announced that no crescent moon was sighted on Friday evening after the completion of twenty ninth day of fast and hence the three districts will observe on Saturday and celebrate Eid on Sunday.

Amidst the nation-wide lock-down due to the spread of Corona Virus, top Muslim scholars across the country have urged Muslims to celebrate the Eid with simplicity by staying indoors and by following the lock-down norms and regulations set by the government. Due to lock-down the State government has appealed that the holy festival be celebrated in a simple manner by offering prayers in the house instead of crowding in Mosques which may pave the way for attracting Coronavirus.
