Belagavi, Apr 16: Seventeen more confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in Belagavi on Thursday taking the total number of positive cases in the district to 36, with one death.
Deputy Commissioner S B Bommanahalli said, Belagavi district has already been declared a "Red Zone" and house-to-house survey will be conducted soon. Addressing sub-divisional officers and tehhasildars through video-conferencing, he said that no matter what the situation, strict vigil will be kept in the whole of Belagavi district. Apart from six existing containment zones, two more place, Yellur village in the outskirts of Belagavi city and Sankeshwar town in Hukkeri Taluk, about 50 km from the city, will be converted into containment zones.
Already Peeranawadi camp area within the city limits has been declared a containment zone after positive cases were reported. People living in the containment zones should keep their areas clean and not to venture out unnecessarily and everybody should strictly follow the rules of social distancing. They were also warned against violating the lock down rules, with strict action against the violators, the DC said. All types of fairs, jathras, weekly markets, religious function's, marriages, sporting activities etc have been strictly banned in the containment zones, the Deputy commissioner said. The DC instructed his officers to further tighten the rules of social distancing. (UNI)
