Mandya, Apr 14: The number of COVID-19 cases in the district of Mandya rose to eight on Monday with three members of a family from Malavalli, including an eight-year-old girl, testing positive.
The girl is the daughter of a man, who attended the religious congregation, organised by Tablighi Jamaat at Markaz Nizamuddin in New Delhi, last month. His 60-year-old mother and 18-year-old nephew are the other two, who have been isolated at the Mandya Institute of Medicine Science (MIMS).
With these three new cases, Malavalli is fast turning into a COVID-19 hotspot in the district. Of the seven attendees to the Markaz from Malavalli, four have tested positive for COVID-19.
As many as 30 people from Malavalli have been put under quarantine as a team from Markaz Nizamuddin had visited them in Malavalli recently.
An employee of the Nanjangud pharmaceutical company from Swarnasandra is the other COVID-19 patient, who is under watch at MIMS.Following the increase in number of COVID-19 positive cases, senior officials have decided to intensify the lockdown restrictions around the buffer zone, created around the residences of the patients.
Meanwhile, all entry to Swarnasandra has been banned.
Social workers and volunteers continue to help the needy and policemen on streets with food, tender coconuts and other essentials in different parts of the town. (UNI)
