Gadag, Apr 9: Karnataka recorded sixth death from Novel Coronavirus, after an 80-year-old woman succumbed to the disease at Gadag Institute of Medical Science (GIMS) Hospital on Wednesday, the District Deputy Commissioner said here on Thursday.
According to Gadag DC A G Hiremath, the deceased had been recently admitted to the GIMS, after complaining of fever and breathing problems.
The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment, he said. Following her death, as many as 44 people, including the relatives of the deceased, had been quarantined and put on observation, Mr Hiremath added.
The deceased had come in contact with seven persons, who had arrived from Goa recently, at one of her relative's houses in the town.The district administration has declared the vicinity of the deceased house as 'containment area' and strict measures had been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
Karnataka had registered as many as 181 COVID-related infections, including five deaths and 28 cured till Wednesday evening.(UNI)
