BS Yediyurappa looks all set to retain power with the BJP leading on eleven out of 15 seats that went to bypolls last week.
BJP needs to retain six seats to maintain majority in Karanataka assembly. While saffron party leads in 11 seats, Congress leads in one seat, JDS two seats and independent one seat. The only thorn in the flesh of BJP is its rebel candidate Sharath Bache Gowda who is leading in Hoskote seat. He is contesting as an independent candidate. Sharath Bache Gowda is the son of BJP MP B N Bache Gowda. All eleven seats where BJP is leading, their candidates are rebel congress MLAs who jump ship to BJP.
The Karnataka bypoll were held to fill the vacancies caused by the disqualification of 17 rebel Congress and JD(S) MLAs, whose revolt led to collapse of the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in July and paved the way for BJP to come to power.
