Bengaluru, Nov 20: In order to encourage electric vehicles in the state, Karnataka Government was mulling on providing vehicle registration on priority for electric vehicles after 2020, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka Gaurav Gupta said on Wednesday.
He was speaking at ''Electric Vehicle and Changing Landscape on Mobility'', a session organised at Bangalore Tech Summit 2019.
The State Government introduced the electric vehicle policy in 2017 and has now stepped forward to build an electric vehicle cluster in the state, he said.
The government has been encouraging citizens to switch from petrol and diesel driven vehicles to electric vehicles. It was also working towards opening more number of charging centres all over the state, the principal secretary further said.
He stated that reserved parking space for electric vehicles would be provided along with charging facilities in various parts of the state.
He revealed that to encourage environmental-friendly public transportation and encourage the shift to electric vehicles, the state government would be introducing electric buses in the city and the state.
A number of industry players such as Mahindra Electric, Volta have been working in the EV sector in the city. The State Government also intends to encourage innovators and entrepreneurs who wish to work on e-mobility, he added. (UNI)
