Mysuru, Oct 6 : The world famous Dasara festivities here, entering the eighth day today, is gaining momentum, with a large number of tourists, including foreigners, besides the domestic, a beeline to this city of palaces on the eve of the Dasara festivities.
The grand finale of the procession (Jumbo Savari) is scheduled on October 8 with lakhs of people expected to witness the mega event which will be flagged by the Chief Minister BS Yeddiyurappa.
The 10-day festivities tempo has been picking up with crowds from various parts of the country pouring to the heritage city to witness the various cultural festivities.
Even though rain lashed the city during the last three days, the people's participation was not let down.
The entire city was with major circles and buildings, parks, street trees and other places were completely glowing with lights during night, besides the dazzling illumination of Mysore palace.
The festival had become the star attraction, a fact vouched by the almost 100per cent occupancy in hotels in the city and around.
About 40 lakh people expected to visit the city during the Dasara festivities, according to district in-charge Minister V Somanna.
The festivities were opened well known writer S L Byrappa on September 29 atop Chamundi Hills along with Yediyurappa. (UNI)
